Paulus to Syracuse? It's just silly

Former Duke point guard Greg Paulus is back at the top of the list of hot college sports topics. And it's not about the Duke basketball program bombing out last season. Nope. Now he will battle for the quarterback position at Syrucuse, a school whose football program has won only five games in the last two years.

Paulus grew up watching the Orange, since he went to school at the nearby Christian Brothers Academy. But don't you remember all the conversations about him looking into playing at Michigan? I guess he watched that episode of 12th Street Sports Bar in which we made fun of him and Michigan for even considering the notion.

"I am very fortunate to have had the opportunity to play college basketball," Paulus said. "And I am very lucky to have another opportunity to do something else in college I love. I'm really excited about having a chance to further my education and play college football."

We will be very fortunate if we don't have to hear too much more from him. Blah.

Syrucuse student and blogger Kevin Cartini writes his three reasons Paulus will be bad for Syrucuse.

What do you think about Paulus' playing for Syrucuse?

Who's selling UT championship ring on eBay?

The Longhorns did not get their way in the recent Big 12 meetings. Big 12 coaches decided against changes to the current tiebreaker system and to use Bowl Championship Series standings as the method to break ties between more than two teams.

Here's something even better involving the Longhorns. Somebody has reportedly placed a University of Texas championship ring for sale on eBay. Click here for more details.

And with the 151st pick of the NFL Draft ...

The New York Giants select – a story line.

So Rhett Bomar is going to be in New York. For most athletes making the move from Sam Houston State to the Big Apple would be a huge shock to the system. I am sure Rhett will experience some of that.

One of the aspects of playing in New York that a lot of people seem to have problems with is dealing with the New York media. That is an area I don’t think Rhett will have any trouble with. He is certainly better equipped to handle the throng of reporters in New York than any other athlete coming out of Sam Houston State.
